Feedback

What you have posted takes evident account of the set design, this is very good in presentation and argument, cold be linked a little more closely to Mise en scene.  At the same time, I feel you could have extended your blogging to shot selection, camera and shot selection.  This would have helped develop your blog and evaluation of shoot day.  Well done nonetheless

account of shoot day

When placing the band on set we had to make sure that the mirrors weren’t covering them and that the light bulbs were correctly in place. As I predicted from set-up day, the single sided mirrors posed an issue since they spin and expose a non-reflective surface. We overcame this challenge in close-up shots by having someone stand below holding the mirror in place. I did this on a few occasions. The broken mirrors gave a great end result in achieving the narrative of the song within the broken relationship between the couple and as well as showing different angles of the band members simultaneously.
We instructed the band to wear their ever-day clothes in order to create a better link to the young fashion and also giving them a sense of normalcy.

I mentioned at the start of the project that I wanted to have a ‘light leek’ effect in the music video, where the lights would blur. The group agreed with this, which is why it is a key element in the CD digipak that I designed. On shoot day we each tried to get this ‘push-pull’ effect with the focus on the camera. This was one of our significant shots because the reason for the ‘push-pull’ effect was to show the inconstant relationship between the dancers and the narrative. The idea is to put these shots in the introduction and the ending.

When I was working on the sound by playing back the song, I became familiar with the lighting as well. I was considering using the Fresnel because it gave an indifferent colour to set. However, we designed the set with specific lighting and adding extra light sources would detract away from the strobe lights and light bulbs.

After shooting the band we filmed the dancers, Sophie and James. We allowed the dancers to get familiar with their working area and did a few test shots to see where the dancer would be at every jump, fall and turn.
I filmed for some of this section, in different angles to where the dancers would meet. We also decided to use a high angle shot by using the genie-lift. We wanted to give the effect that we (as an audience) are looking onto the story and judging it. The dancers had two costumes each for the day; casual wear and black dace gear. By doing this we are establish two sides to the characters.
We kept some mirrors and light bulbs in the background in order to create a direct link to the band.

I feel as though our production ran smoothly. The band members achieved the intensity we wanted in every take, along with the dancers putting a lot of effort into showing a passionate, aggressive and changing relationship.  I am glad with how neat the process was and how we did not come across any major issues.

set up for the set

  1. We began by first hanging up the dangling bits of plastic mirror. We will place the band members in the centre of them. The reflective surface is not double sided, which in lies the problem we might find that the mirrors will spin, exposing the plain side.
  2. Hung the light bulbs up to dangle in the air alongside with the mirror shards. Last minuet decided to use green and blue coloured light bulbs as well as the see-through ones.
  3. Last preparation made was sticking other broken bits of plastic mirror onto a black board. This is to film the dancers reflection through. We may need to cover another board to achieve the desired effect.

Excellent blogging well done, addresses evaluation well.  Only area for development is not to simply post photos onto blogger, but use a presentation tool.

Evaluation of CD digipak

  •             For the CD cover we first only had one member of the group in the cover, making it an inadequate portrayal of the band. Our group then arranged another photo shoot with the other band member bar one. I photographed this and created the CD cover with these images. Because we are still missing a band member we will include him at a later date.
  • ·      The design theme of broken glass and light leeks was what the group and I decided to use in the CD digipak. Both of these elements are key in our music video to represent the relationship within the narrative.
  •    The conventions for the design of the CD is that I have included; the barcode, record label, the band name in the stem of the cd, and copyright statement.
  • ·    Upon prior development of the band we researched bands that optimise what we wanted our band to look and sound like. Among the researched bands, one of the similar bands to Synergy is Kid’s in Glass Houses.
  • ·      I decided to choose the font ‘bleeding cowboys’ in red in order to illustrate the sexual appeal of the band. The font is a flowing, punkie look to show the style of the band.
  • ·      We were trying to represent a young, mainstream boy band about to make it big in the industry. I believe that this was achieved by showing a relaxed atmosphere within the CD cover.

  • ·      The music video, poster and CD digipak are three different products used to promote the band in order for their song sales to boost. They are also essential in gathering a fan base for the band, which leads to a rise in concert sales.
  • ·      The general feedback from those that I have asked about the CD digipak, is that it is a clear presentation of the band and has a desirable quality. I would like to change the fact that I still have one member missing from the photograph.
  • ·      Because I have taken photography I am aware of how Photoshop works which came in handy for this task.

completed CD digipak

I have re-done the CD cover as well as adding information about the band on the inside right side, on the far left. I have also included the bands name as well as their main song on the stem of the CD.

3rd cd digipack

Design finished with the title included. Now all that is left is the inside packet with information about the band, the barcode and copyright.

2nd draft of digipak

For this image, we found it relative to use light leeks in the background, because that is what we are going to include in the actual music video. In our video we are using light bulbs that when the depth of field is manipulated, the unfocused effect of the lights is what is shown on the cd cover above. There are separate layers on the right hand side to edit each individual image without effecting the others.

I took these photographs of the band members, however one member was not present for the shoot. We changed the lead singer from Walter (black hoodie)to Freddy (blue top).

Because it is the band's first album, it is essential to have all the members in the front cover. I have started to include another member onto the cover. We need to gather more high quality pictures of the band.
